Broken Code

Someone on Threads prompted cough  poets cough to write something with the word "brutality" in it. My mind immediately went to the video game Mortal Kombat and its list of finishing moves as metaphors for our broken social code and toxic political climate.

Another day kicks off like Mortal Kombat:

Unrestrained rage fueling every word,

Deaf ears choking every argument,

Brutality outscoring friendship in every round.

Congratulations! You've unlocked a new character:

Hate comes with sharp designs and shadow moves.

No counter succeeds, no combo punches through.

There's no "Finish Him." We're finishing "us."

Credits roll like so many heads.
